Akron Civic Theater Fantastic Fridays
(Free performances)
The Akron Civic Theater has provided free performances in the past including, ballet excerpts from the Nutcracker show during the holidays, holiday shows, organ concerts and barber-shoppers.
The theater was built in 1929 by John Eberson, a famous theater architect. Its interior is designed after a Moorish castle featuring Mediterranean décor, medieval carvings, Italian sculpture and other European antiques. The auditorium resembles a night in a Moorish garden that includes clouds and stars drifting across the domes ceiling. The Civic is only one of five remaining atmospheric theaters in the country.
