Simply Slavic is a downtown festival created specifically to celebrate the rich traditions of Youngstown’s diverse Eastern European community. It will include live music, Polish, Slovak, Carpatho-Rusyn and Ukrainian folk dance performances, home-made food, children’s learning areas, educational exhibits and an ethnic marketplace with crafts and folk art. Especially unique to the event will be an Ecumenical Prayer Blessing and Parade of Flags with representatives from a variety of faiths and parishes; a Slavic Beer Garden featuring a tasting “flight” of unique imports; a Baking Contest where amateurs and professionals alike can compete to be the Kolachi Queen/King, and; a Euro Disco showcasing modern Eastern European dance music.
