VELVET ICE CREAM FESTIVAL
(Admission is Free)

What’s summer without ice cream. If you like ice cream, you will love this festival, which has plenty of that and more. A mile south of Utica, Ohio, the Utica Old Fashion Ice Cream Festival on the grounds of Velvet Ice Cream Co. is held every year on Memorial Day Weekend. This festival starts with the grand parade to kick off the celebration. Over 90 artisans and food venders come to the event every year. The festival starts out with an ice cream parade and the crowning of the Festival Queen. Anyone can participate in the Velvet Ice Cream ice cream eating contest and take tours of the factory to see how it’s made. Other events include live musical performances, egg tosses, pony rides, sheep herding by border collies, antique gas engines, a car show, motorcycle show and a magic show. The 37 year old tradition brings about 40,000 people to Utica, and they gulp down more than 75,000 scoops of ice cream. Ice cream and family fun is a perfect way to kick off the summer.
