Ohio's Most Unique Tour Guide
Will Take You to Ohio's Favorite Attractions

...with your help!

Spot-the-Rock, Ohio's most unique tour guide, is traveling the state throughout 2008 in a wild game of hide-and-go-seek. ...But he needs your help!

Each adventure involves a little give and take. Spot-The-Rock leads you to a favorite Ohio attraction and in return, you give Spot-The-Rock a lift to his next Ohio attraction. Along the way, tell us about your journey, send pics or even video documenting the journey, humor, etc. and provide info about the attraction he's visiting so we may do a story about it.

If you are visiting a Spot-The-Rock site with intent to move him, be sure to call the site to make sure he is still there, have them hold him (3-hours max) until you arrive and e-mail us so we can post that he's in transit to the next attraction. When he arrives at the next attraction, notify us so we can publish an article about the new site and post where to spot-the-rock at the start of the next monthly magazine edition.

Wherever you take or leave Spot-The-Rock, make sure it is with the knowledge and permission of the attraction's owner or management.  Anyone may participate.

Note: Spot has plenty of toys to give away for helping him. We just ask that if you take anything from Spot's suitcase, you also give something in return so that there's always a little something like fast-food kids' meal toys for everyone that participates.

KID'S SAFETY TIPS FROM OHIOTRAVELER.COM OUTINGS INTRODUCING SPOT-THE-ROCK

1. Don't argue with your sister in the car because it will distract your mom or dad while they are trying to drive which could lead to an accident. (Kelly, age 10)
2. Bring water. (Colton, age 4)
3. Know how to write your last name and your address and phone number in case you get lost. If you are lost, try and find a policeman to help you. (by Ashley, age 5)
4. Spot, if you are home alone, don't answer the phone or let anyone in the door. Don't even answer the door. (Tia M., age 9)
5. If you get separated from your family while at the mall, go straight to the information desk or nearest security guard so they can page your family over the loud speaker and tell them where they can find you. (Michael W.)
6. Walk against traffic and ride your bike with traffic (Dally)
7. Wash your hands after using the bathroom so you don't get germs Spot (Tyler, age 7)
8. Don't let mean people try to trick you like if a stranger comes up to you and says something like your mommy got hurt and she asked me to pick you up (David Keller)
9. If you catch on fire, stop, drop and roll (CMB in Brook Park)
10. Tie your shoes Spot, if you have feet, so you don't trip (by KJ in Cleveland)
11. Know your phone number before you go (by Kyrsten in Medina)
12. Have a quarter so you can use a pay phone if you need to (by Tyler in Stow)
13. Don't play with matches because your house, clothes, and toys will burn. (by Kaitlyn)
14. Don't kiss animals near their mouth.  You can give and get germs from animals like strep throat.   Some animals can die from strep and colds too. (by Jessica)
15. Be careful when around strange dogs.  I was running near one at an ice cream shop, and he was on a leash, but he still bit me.  His owners were surprised when their dog went to bite me.  Luckily, his owners had taken him to get his shots and the dog didn't bite through my skin. (by Kyrsten)
16. Look both ways before crossing the street (by Cameron, age 8 in Avon Lake)
17. Don't talk to strangers (by Melissa Young, age 6)

22. Spot, don't let your owner take you for a walk without a leash (Danny, age 9 & Katie, age 7 & Mom-Nancy in North Olmsted). "We have a friend (dog) that was hit by a car (his name is Jonny). He's an Italian Greyhound. He survived, luckily! It was unusual for him to be  off his leash. He got confused, with all the great snow! He trusted that the car would stop, because, surely, it would not want to hurt him. He was mistaken. He was too trusting and OFF HIS LEASH. So tell your master to keep a leash on you for ALL those walks!! People are not always on their toes!"
23. Make sure your home has a Carbon Monoxide Detector in it.  My Grandparents had one and it saved their lives.  They couldn't smell the carbon monoxide in their house, but the detector did.
I love my Grandparents and I am glad they are still alive. (by Kyrsten, age 10 in Fairview Park).
24. Don't put your name on the outside of your book bag, lunchbox or clothing (like your jacket).  Strangers can learn your name from these things and trick you into thinking they know you, when they really don't.
