Celebrate National Preservation Month at Bear’s Mill! Built
in 1849 by Gabriel Baer and listed on the National Register of Historic Places
since 1975, Bear’s Mill is one of the few operating water-powered mills in Ohio
today. The Friends of Bear’s Mill non-profit organization is holding a special
Spring Open House the first weekend of May. Tour the four-story working antique,
shop in the Mill Store & Gallery and make a donation to help keep the doors open
and the wheels turning.
The Friends are dedicated to keeping the Bear’s Mill
property open to the public by offering community oriented events including
educational tours, nature walks, regional art exhibitions and unique shopping.
May, National Preservation Month, is a wonderful time to support the unique
historic landmark.

Kayaking, camping and biking enthusiasts from across the state will converge on
the Ohio Expo Center’s Lausche Building on Saturday, May 1 to celebrate “May
Day” with fellow paddlers and other “silent sports” enthusiasts at
“PaddlePalooza! Ohio’s Outdoors Expo.” Discount coupons will be available at
local outdoor retailers.
Show features include an indoor kayak demo pool and certified instructors from
Columbus Outdoor Pursuits, as well as ongoing seminars on subjects including
car-topping equipment and techniques, camping tent selection, rigging kayaks for
fishing, selecting the right mountain bike, and new product intros and reviews.
Exhibits will feature the latest in canoes, kayaks and paddle gear, mountain
bikes, camping equipment and fly fishing tackle from local retailers, while

A BIG
birding event is planned right in the peak of spring warbler migration in the
Lake Erie Marsh Region of Northwest Ohio. This bird festival: “The Biggest Week
in American Birding” is hosted by Black Swamp Bird Observatory, Tropical
Birding, Kaufman Field Guides, Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge, and Magee Marsh
Wildlife Area. This “birding festival week” will be so jam-packed with
workshops, warblers, free guided activities, warblers, half day trips, keynote
speakers, workshops, and more warblers that it will have to be held over 11
days.

have the truly unique. At the Wild Turkey Festival in Vinton County, you will

All chalk art will be created
between 9am-3pm, and judging will take place between 3-5pm. Main Street Medina
will provide the boards for professional and college students, as well as
pastels. High School students will work in pastels around the Square. Prizes
and awards will be given to the top three in each category, Professional,
College, and High School. Professional artists will be eligible to win one of
three gift certificates ($100, $75, $50) to local restaurants. College and High
School students will compete for gift certificates from $75 to $25. Following
the Festival, the boards will be displayed in storefronts throughout the
Historic District. In addition to the live chalk art demonstrations, children’s

"Roaring
Twenties Live" is a production that involves history, singing, dancing, and lots
of fun. This production takes you back to the Roaring Twenties during
prohibition. The location where the play is produced is the actual tunnel area
where the gangsters traveling from Chicago to New York by train spent many hours
during the 20's and early 30's. During the performance you may get the
opportunity to meet Al Capone. The production is full of excitement and
surprises. Production presented by the Bucyrus Tourism & Visitors' Bureau and
the Bucyrus Little Theatre Group.
