THIS IS THE STORY OF SPOT-THE-ROCK

Spot-the-Rock was born in the Pacific Ocean many years ago when a volcano exploded under the water. The hot lava that oozed out was cooled by the water and formed many rocks. Spot was the largest. Spot's first friend in life was a goldfish named Fuji the Fish. Fuji visited Spot everyday for many years.

After several years passed, Spot the Rock drifted with the ocean currents until one day he was stranded on a beach in California. Fuji still visited him everyday. Spot also made a new friend, Bert the Birdie. They had many good times together. And like Fuji, Bert visited Spot everyday. You see, they knew Spot couldn't move by himself so they took time out of each of their days to give him company so he wouldn't get too bored just sitting around. They were great friends.

After a while, Fuji and Bert didn't stop by to visit Spot anymore and he didn't know why. He only knew that he was very lonely and wished he could move to try and find his friends. The only company he had these days were little starfish that washed up from the water and then back down again. One day, Spot's life changed forever! A man was walking the beach collecting rocks like Spot. He stopped and asked Spot if he'd like to be a Pet Rock. Spot was excited because he knew pets got a lot of attention so he agreed. The year was 1975.

Next, Spot found himself in a box, on a plane, in a cargo bay with all of the other pet rocks and cats and birds traveling to new places. It was very dark and Spot was afraid. He wondered if he made the right decision.

Once Spot arrived at his new home, he was happier than ever. Kids played with him all the time. He had a nice warm box to sleep in and the kitty cat always liked to cuddle up nearby. Spot thought life was wonderful. His joy would last over one year until...

...the kids played with him less and less. And then not at all. Poor little Spot was eventually placed in the dusty dark attic with boxes full of other old toys and clothes and things that the people just didn't want anymore. He was sad, the saddest he had ever been.

Spot was in the attic for more than 30 years. Somebody cleared all of the other boxes out but left Spot. Then, one day a man appeared with a flashlight and found Spot. Spot was very excited. The man asked who Spot was and what he was doing in the attic. Spot told him all about his adventures and then the man asked him if he'd like to come down and join the rest of the family. Spot grinned ear-to-ear and said "YES."

When the family asked Spot-the-Rock what he wanted to do, Spot cried out anxiously, "I want to see Ohio and meet the buckeye people!" The family agreed to try and find a way for Spot to travel the Buckeye state and came up with a plan.
