The Fairport Lighthouse and Fairport Harbor Marine Museum was Ohio’s first lighthouse and Great Lakes marine museum. The light of the Fairport Lighthouse was shown for 100 years before it was shut down. The museum, now located inside the lighthouse, has several exhibits that highlight the history connected to Fairport and its lighthouse. These exhibits feature the history of life in Fairport and major artifacts such as navigational instruments, ship paintings and photographs, marine charts, ship carpenter’s tools, lanterns, and a lighthouse lens. It is also home to the famous “Ghost Cat,” which is said to still hang out around the museum and has given the lighthouse a rumor for being possibly haunted.
