The Fairport Lighthouse and Fairport Harbor Marine Museum was the first lighthouse Great Lakes marine museum in Ohio. The light of the Fairport Lighthouse shown for 100 years before it was shut down. The museum that is now inside the lighthouse has several exhibits that highlight the history that is connected to Fairport and its lighthouse. These exhibits feature the history of life in Fairport and major artifacts like navigational instruments, pictures and paintings of ships, marine charts, ship carpenter’s tools, lanterns, and a lighthouse lens. It is also home to the famous “Ghost Cat” that is said to still hang out around the museum, and has given the lighthouse a rumor of being possibly haunted.
