Medina’s Summer of History and Fun

Celebrate America 250 this Summer in Medina, Ohio

As the nation celebrates America 250, Medina has been designated an Ohio 250 Community and has a year-long calendar of events to celebrate! Medina invites you to participate not only in events but also in relaxing weekends with dining, shopping, and entertainment in this historical hotspot. With weekly Friday evening Community Band Concerts on its Historic Square or a trip to the weekly Saturday Morning Medina Farmer’s Market, we know you’ll enjoy the tastes and sounds of what makes Medina a great place to live, work and visit.

History has many homes in Medina. The McDowell-Philips House and John Smart House serve as the two Medina County Historical Society sites and are located within walking distance of Medina’s city center and Uptown Park. Visitors can learn about families and individuals who had a shared love of community and made a lasting impact through education and philanthropy.

Medina’s Town Hall and Engine House Museum offer a historic walk through the city’s neighborhood development, farming, and industry artifacts, as well as timeless photos of events and people who worked so hard to make a central hub for creativity and industry. The Museum is open on Saturdays during the Medina Farmers’ Markets and during Friday and Saturday evening events as well.

Root Candles, one of Medina’s oldest manufacturing companies, is a great place to spend an afternoon shopping for gifts, home decor, kitchen essentials, clothing and handbags. You’ll find your favorite scented candles, but also one-of-a-kind specialty items. While making Medina home for over 150 years, you will see why visitors travel many miles to visit this unique flagship store and company.

Weekend Medina Community Band concerts begin on Friday nights in June and ORMACO (Ohio Regional Music Arts Cultural Outreach) concerts in Medina’s Uptown Park Gazebo offer the best summer pastime. With ORMACO’s special events of Jazz and Opera Under the Stars and Medina Community Band’s Friday night concerts, you can plan a perfect night out with dinner in one of the 10 restaurants in Medina’s Historic District and have an evening of entertainment in the heart of Medina.

Cool Beans will offer you breakfast, lunch or dinner while you visit the Historic District. With a large selection of drinks and menu items, it’s common to see lines outside the door for events and even just a Saturday morning because of its delicious reputation! Whether you need a coffee flight or a snack of chips and dip, their full menu will feed your cravings while you dive into Medina’s historical sites.

For a more upscale dining experience, Corkscrew Saloon has a patio perfect for summer dining. This stately bar and eatery serves New American Seafood and steak dishes in a beautiful, historic setting. They also offer take-out for a perfect summer picnic on the square or at the location of your choosing.

The richness of Medina County’s history offers visitors not only the storied past of the surrounding towns and villages but also preserved town squares and a getaway for history lovers of all generations.  With an entire year of America 250 events, you’ll want to be sure to check out VisitMedinaCounty.com for all your travel ideas and itineraries.
