Welcome to the Newark Earthworks, including The Great Circle Earthworks in Newark, Ohio.  Built by the Hopewell Indians between 100 B.C. and 500 A.D., this historic complex of burial mounds and earthworks were once one of the most impressive discovered in the U.S. Today, there are still walls adjoining the mounds in the 20-acre circular embankment. Additional smaller mounds are also found opposite the openings within the Octagonal works.

These Earthworks are part of the Ohio Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks UNESCO World Heritage Site. Click here to see more.
