Did you ever imagine stepping inside one of America’s grandest theater districts and getting backstage access—for free? At Playhouse Square in downtown Cleveland, you can do exactly that.
These guided tours take you deep into the heart of the world’s largest theater restoration project. Once nearly lost to the wrecking ball, these beautifully revived venues now form the largest performing arts center outside New York City, welcoming nearly 1,000,000 guests and raising 1,000 curtains every year.
Your tour is led by knowledgeable volunteers who share stories of how these iconic theaters were saved, restored, and transformed into the cultural crown jewels they are today. You may even find yourself on stage at one of the historic venues.
No registration is required for groups with fewer than ten people. For groups of ten or more, simply call ahead to reserve your spot. And if you’re unsure where to go, just look for the world’s largest outdoor chandelier glittering above the street—your shining landmark in the Playhouse Square District.
